DescriptionGeorge Fett was the son of Hungarian immigrants, born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1920. He attended the Cleveland School of Art, where he graduated in 1941. He was in the Merchant Marines during World War II, and got a scholarship at the Colorado School of Art afterwards. He worked as an engineer until he took on cartooning in 1961. He created the syndicated newspaper strip 'Sniffy' three years later. The strip, based on Fett's own pets, was retitled 'Norbert' in 1973. Syndicated by Bell-McClure and later United Features, 'Norbert' achieved great popularity in Australia and Japan.
