Description

Dave Stevens's Rocketeer stands, in my rarely humble opinion, as one of the most beautifully designed characters in comics. It's not a fancy costume, but it has a perfect retro look. Put that costume alongside a lovely lass, and how could you go wrong?

Interesting that artist Brian Balondo opts to give Cliff Secord's girlfriend her motion picture identity (Jenny Blake) rather than the one her creator gave her (Betty, after pinup queen Bettie Page, whose likeness inspired Stevens's character). No matter -- a rose by any name looks as sweet.

Inker Bob Almond stepped in to kick this one up a notch, just in case it needed kicking.

Hmmmm...this Brian Balondo. As Mr. Burns would say, "I like the cut of his jib." This is an amazing piece or artwork. Another shining jewel in the Michael Rankins treasure trove of comic art.
