Description

"Werewolf of London", is a 2014 commission painted by Sanjulian, a.k.a. Manuel Pérez Clemente. It is based upon a publicity still from the 1935 film which was the very first film about a werewolf, starring Henry Hull in the title role.

The painting is an oil on canvas and measures 16" x 20".

This portrait has been painted and drawn before by various well known artists and has adorned the covers of various magazines. Just the same, I don't believe any of the past renditions come close to the quality of this portrait. Manuel vividly captured the energy and ferocity of the character with his energetic brush strokes. This is apparent in the facial highlights and particularly in the wild placement of the werewolf's hairs! Sanjulian's interpretation is even an improvement on the creative genius of make up man Jack Pierce's creation.
