This is what Wilson called a Dense Pack. When asked how many hours it took to draw, he said it was too depressing to talk about.

Originally, this was a private commission, not intended for publication. But when it was finished, Wilson liked it so much he decided to publish it in ZAP.

Microscopically small, as usual. This incredibly detailed piece doesn’t measure more than 7” by 11” (18 x 28 cm). Wilson preferred the small format (even forcing him to work with a magnifying glass) because it was his intention to make the viewer approach as close as possible, in order to fully appreciate every penstroke and detail.

Wilson drew himself three times in the piece: he’s the guy on the table, he’s the guy in the porthole with the knife (note the checkered pants), and probably also the guy at lower left hand side, behind the curtain.

The girl in the skirt at lower right hand side is based on his girlfriend of the time Rebecca Wilson. She was much younger than him. She tried to get him to slow down on his drinking and so forth, as she was worried about him. He actually went to Alcoholics Anonymous for a time, but it sadly did not stick.
