Mr. Freeze by
Ron Salas
Mr. Freeze is another Bat-Villain who I was not very familiar with until I saw him debut on Batman: The Animated Series in the classic "Heart of Ice" episode. The only thing I really knew about Mr. Freeze was that he had a freeze ray. But after seeing his new origin that Paul Dini wrote for the show, I came to love the character. Like most of the best villains, Victor Fries had a tragic origin that drove him down a dark path. If he had not lost his wife, Nora, Fries would have probably became a benefit to humanity with his scientific genius. But it was not to be. Mr. Freeze has also had a few really cool-looking costumes, and I sent Ron reference for a couple of them and let him choose how he wanted to draw Freeze. Ron chose to go with his classic look and a bigger gun, and man does he look cool. This whole piece just evokes a feeling of cold, with the snow and freezing mist adding a chilling atmosphere. I also really dig the look of his gun and the expression on his face. This is definitely one of my favorites from Ron, and I could not be happier with it!
