Description

Mauldin made his name with his groundbreaking work in World War II bringing the war home with his creations Willie and Joe. He was awarded his first Pulitzer prize for his work during the war. He later became a well-known editorial cartoonist and was awarded a second Pulitzer for a cartoon focused on Russian human rights abuses while working for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. A few final points; at the time of this cartoon, Bill was working for the Chicago Sun-Times (I’m from Chicago), and I think I actually used this cartoon for a presentation in my 7th grade Social Studies class. It’s a striking example of the country’s mood from a time right before Nixon resigned the presidency.

This is a very different - but fantastic - piece. Sun-Times editorial cartoon from the 70's...super cool.
