I'm delighted to be able to do this again, since in my opinion Carmine was the definitive DC artist of the Silver Age. I say this with no disrespect to Gil Kane or Murphy Anderson, I'm a huge fan of both men.

I simply think that at Marvel there was Jack Kirby and then other talented artists like Colan, Romita and Buscema and the same applied to DC with Carmine at the top of the list.

When I first posted this, I said I believed it to be rejected cover for a DC Digest that was to feature my beloved JSA along with other team-ups of heroes. Noting the Green Arrow-Green Lantern pairing, Jay and Barry together and Hawkman and Adam Strange not to mention what looks like a JSA-JLA team-up.

Plus there was that lovely Batman illustration with the Creeper that was presumably the back cover.

Within hours of posting it on the CAF, fellow member Ray Cuthbert emailed me to let me know it was not a proposed DC Digest cover. No, it was something much more special. With Ray's permission here's what he told me.

"Michael - this isn't from a digest - it's even better..."The Greatest Team-Up Stories Ever Told," it was the preliminary for the wrap-around cover painting for this hardcover. The finished painting was by Dave Devries."
