Karate Kid vs. Storm Shadow by Alvaro Martinez

Alvaro Martinez is a talent I discovered fairly recently, but his work on Aquaman, Batman Eternal, and Ultimate X-Men has been very impressive. When I saw that Alvaro was coming to Wizard World New Orleans 2015, I knew that I wanted to get a commission from him, and got in touch with David Macho at Spanish Inq to set it up. I sent Alvaro a few opponents to choose from and he picked one my favorite ninjas from the Clan Arashikage: Storm Shadow! I was a pretty big G.I. Joe fan growing up, and of course I really dug the ninja characters. I loved all of those Larry Hama stories featuring Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes. I really dig this piece, and while Karate Kid looks good, Storm Shadow looks even better. I also really dig the positioning of the characters with Tommy using his sword and Val coming down with a chop to break it. Big thanks to Alvaro and David for this fantastic commission!

Tommy Arashikage is martial arts master and one of the best fighters in comics. That said, he's just not as good as Val Armorr and will lose this battle. But he won't go down easy. Storm Shadow is extremely tough and he carries a ton of weapons, which means he'll last at least a minute against Karate Kid, and that's as generous as I can be. I know I'm biased, but Karate Kid will mop the floor with poor Storm Shadow, though maybe afterwards Tommy can convince Val to teach him a few new moves.
