Man-Bat by Michael Golden

Again, no b-day party of mine would be complete without a Golden piece, one of my fav artist if not my fav' ever.

I've had this one since 2007 when Michael and Renee (and Joe Jusko) came to Belgium for a tour. This was a generous thank you piece for me lending some of my Golden pages for an exhibition.

Meeting Michael for the first time was like meeting Santa for me and talk with him as this was not long since Michael had come out of the woods and entered the convention circuit after being unseen for many many years.

Man-Bat was an obvious choice referring to his legendary run of stories in Batman Family, a run I was too glad to look for and complete on my first trip to the US (and overpay for, but whatever).

Though his sense of b&w use is extremely strong, I still love to see these delicate pure pencil pieces by the master when every line is thought out before being put on paper. And his style has obviously evolved a lot since those Bat Family days, now more angular and incorporating design than it was in those days when it was more “round”. So it’s fun to see his modern take on the character.

A fantastic piece by one of the true masters of the sequential form. Thank you both Michael and Renee.
