Description

SCUTTLE WATCH is the only book ever fully illustrated by Alex Raymond. This SCUTTLE WATCH book illustration is drawn on what is now an 8 by 13 inch art board. Raymond had a habit of cutting his illustrations for this book into smaller boards than what they were drawn upon, and that is the case here. Below the drawing in pencil is written: "Aunt Mercy came sailing up the aisle, ----- and after her trotted a thin, gray-haired man nervously turning his well-worn beaver in his hands (page 150) Chapter 9" Alex Raymond inked his initials in the lower right side of the man's lower coattails. Raymond frequently used this "initial" signature on his JUNGLE JIM strip.

It is lovely to see all the detail that Raymond crammed into this illustration!

I thought this drawing was wonderful too, when I saw it on Mike Burkey's site. I agree that the detail is great here. The amusing expressions on the faces of both foreground characters are priceless, too.
