DescriptionI'd enjoyed putting together the "last issue spectacular" covers that Mitch did for me so much that I couldn't help but think about building out that 80's Crusaders universe. The number of villains that Archie created during the 1960's was amazing. Most comics had 3 stories each and with almost no villains having any multiple appearances there were scores of villains everywhere. The Gladiator's fight with the 1960's Shield reminded me of the old pre-Crisis origin of Lex Luthor's hatred of Superboy and it was easy to recast that as a kind of Kang hating all things Captain America model. This issue's cover is based around the classic John Buscema cover for Avengers #267. I hope Crusaders fans approve :) I'm a big fan of TJ's work (can't imagine how he doesn't have a regular gig!) and I think he did a great job here. Great pose for CatGirl and just love how chunky the Gladiator's boots are. Original size 11x17 ------------------- In This Issue ... The Gladiator From Tomorrow Returns! As the new team starts to settle into their Greenwich Village headquarters the calm is shattered by the return of Ashur Khan, the Gladiator from Tomorrow! Once defeated and humiliated by the 1960's Shield, the Gladiator has been biding his time, upgrading the weaponry in his battle suit and laying in wait for the right time to strike. The new Crusaders find themselves tested to their limits by this man-at-arms from the future. Maybe more importantly, who - or what! - is the huge, shadowy figure seen on the final page and what is the big event that is promised for the Crusaders' next issue?? This Issue's Cover ... The Crusaders - the original Shield, Jaguar, CatGirl, O Vingador and Mister Midnight react to the appearance of the Gladiator. Social/Sharing |

Interesting choice of the Hangman's uniform since there are several variations, cape/no cape, cowl with nose piece/cowl without. Your choice or TJs?

Your choice or TJs?I never liked the version with the cowl and no cape (the villain version). That just didn't look right. It's actually part of the reason why the idea of the "bad" 60's versions coming another earth played so well in mine head. But, really, I just liked the sharp lined cowl version that was used for O Vingador. Just very nicely distinctive. That I think TJ's style fits with that was just a plus.
