DescriptionJonny Quest has been a favorite character of mine since it first was broadcast in 1964. Who could NOT love the adventures of a Globe-trotting young boy, who's father is a world renowned scientist, Ex-CIA "nanny", and best friend that can charm snakes and basically perform middle-east magic. Throw in some dinosaurs, jet packs, an evil scientist, and faux-science and I'm all in.In 1986, Comico began a 31-issue run of a Jonny Quest comic...and I have to said it was really well done. It didn't just rehash the television episodes but continue the characters into fun new adventures. Issue 1 of the book was drawn by famed artist, Steve Rude. As you can see from the page, it looks beautiful. But as with most Jonny Quest stories...there is more here if you explore a little deeper. Steve "the Dude" Rude faxed the penciled pages to friend and fellow comic art legend, Alex Toth. Mr. Toth was not known for being gentle with his words and that was evidenced in this situation as well. IF you are interested in reading more about the situation and seeing the feedback, I would urge you to search for "Rude Toth Jonny Quest" and you'll find some great websites that have done a fabulous job to laying the whole thing out. Some even have Mr. Rudes follow-up comments from an interview years after the event occurred. I don't know whether to consider myself fortunate or UNfortunate for have a page that didn't receive a beating....I'm gonna say it is a GOOD thing. (hah ha) Social/Sharing |

Steve Rude in some language has to translate into Hanna-Barbera. His ability to channel the original source is uncanny.
