DescriptionWhile I wasn’t actively seeking a Dell’Otto piece, I knew it was just a matter of time until I added one to my collection. I do enjoy Gabriele’s work, but as with most artists, I don’t love everything he does. Still, the pieces I do like, I REALLY like. Case in point, this amazing Colossus pinup from “The Marvel Art of Gabriele Dell‘Otto“. When my buddy Jonathan scored this on eBay, he was absolutely thrilled to be the only bidder and getting the piece at a great bargain. His joy was short lived however, as shortly after winning the auction, a high ticket piece came along that he couldn’t resist. At that point, this huge bargain became a possible means of generating a huge profit. I was interested of course. But the timing wasn’t ideal. I was eyeing some pieces from the Spring auctions and I was also trying to start saving for San Diego. Jon sure made it tempting though. First by offering to sell it to me at cost. And when that didn’t work, he offered it to me at HALF cost as an early birthday gift. With the full price already being a steal, half of that would seem to be a no-brainer. But like I said, the timing was just bad. Fast forward to this past weekend, when Jon emailed me again to see if I still wanted it. As I had come home from San Diego with almost my entire art budget, it was much easier to say yes this time. And since I still had the scan I made of the piece when Jon brought it down during Big Wow weekend, I don’t have to wait to share my newest piece with you all (even though I just mailed the payment this morning).About the artwork. As you can see, just a beautiful mixed media illustration of Colossus. The shading and texture on this piece is simply amazing. Also, if you check out the Additional Image above, you'll see how this incredible image even inspired a statue. Anyway, big thanks to my bro Jonathan Mueller for the piece and for the discount. Adding such a nice piece to my collection helps make up for a light year of art from Comic Con. Thanks buddy! Social/Sharing |

I can see why you like this piece, Eric. Brilliant take on the transformation of Colossus. Most of the time it's depicted as being almost instantaneous.
