Description

The first thirty Superman dailies were reprinted in Gli Albi dell Audacia(Daring Comics) #19, dated 2 July 1939. The name of the character was changed by Mussolini's MinCulPop to Ciclone, L' Uomo D' Acciaio(Cyclone, the Man of Steel) due to a law which prevented the use of American titles on comics. Mandrake was pulished as Drake Man, Tarzan as Sigfrido, etc. The cover was drawn by Zenobio Baggioli, who used the professional name Bizen. This comic was on the newsstands in Rome about the same time Action 14 was selling in New York, making it one of the earliest existing published images of Superman still around. The image is a swipe from a Shuster panel in Superman daily #21, which was in turn another take on a panel from page two of the Superman story in Action #2, which was a continuation of the story from Action #1.
