Fantastic Four: Marvel's First Family Photo

Inspired by the recent (lackluster) film release of Fantastic Four and its 75th anniversary, I decided to put in two months of work into a piece that captured both the contemporary and nostalgic moments of the superhero team that redefined superhero comics in general. Moreover, I wanted to convey the sense of family the FF are known for, so what better family activity than a family photo? And it also shows Reed's devotion to his family by being both late and late because of a ball game he treated his son Franklin to. I used my own eye shape for Ben's and the only photo referenced figure in this picture is Sue. The wall is also an important feature, for on it we have at least 13 memories displayed. I also established a chronological order to these photos and souveniers from their storied career. There's also a cameo by both Stan Lee and Jack Kirby on this wall. I've also bereft the photos on the wall of any black inked lines to not only distinguish them from the characters in the foreground, but also give a watercolor-like finish. All this was done in graphic leads, Micron pen, Copic marker, and Prismacolor pencils on an 11 x 17 3-ply piece of Strathmore. To date this is one of my most daring art projects and I want to thank the patience and encouragement of both my family and my soul mate, Jessica.
