DescriptionKazuo Koike author of Lone Wolf & Cub wrote me a note at his signing. I asked his Japanese translator sitting next to him what it said. She looks, points at the upper left - That says Lone Wolf & Cub, under that is Kazuo Koike's autograph. Then she shrugs and apologies and says she doesn't know what the note actually says...Thanks to Daniel (see the comments below) I finally have a translation: The short translation is: "Live simply". The long translation is: When standing, you only need 1/2 a tatami mat of space. When lying, you need only 1 tatami mat. I had a similar piece from Koike (if you look in my gallery). It is an old saying in Japan.
It says going from right to left (and top to bottom): "Okite hanjo, Nette ichijo, Tenka tottemo, ni go han".
The short translation is "live simply".
The long translation is: When standing, you only need 1/2 a tatami mat of space. When lying, you need only 1 tatami mat. Even a king can eat no more than 2 1/2 portions of rice." signed KOZURE OKAMI (Lone Wolf and Cub) Kazuo Koike

Thanks so much for the translation. I was sure it was something he repeated over and over, I saw someone in line ahead of me get the same thing.
