Kazuo Koike 'Lone Wolf & Cub' Caligraphy SDCC 2013 Owner: Aric Castle Comment posted on 9/2/2020

I had a similar piece from Koike (if you look in my gallery). It is an old saying in Japan. It says going from right to left (and top to bottom): "Okite hanjo, Nette ichijo, Tenka tottemo, ni go han". The short translation is "live simply". Thanks so much for the translation. I was sure it was something he repeated over and over, I saw someone in line ahead of me get the same thing. |

Bill Willingham - Warp 16 story page 8 Owner: Aric Castle Comment posted on 10/22/2015

Justice Machine Annual #1 with the first app. of the Elementals was in 1983 - a year prior to Elementals #1 which was his first regular series. Prior to that, I think he primarily did work for D&D and those great ads in Marvel Comics circa 1982. Right, I hadn't realized or remembered that Bill did the whole issue of Justice Machine Annual #1. And he's probably the best D&D artist of that era. |

Fables 75 page 1 - Mark Buckingham, Steve Leialoha Owner: Aric Castle Comment posted on 10/12/2015

I really like the additional pencil text on the page. Shows how Buckingham took the text into consideration (as it's the title page of course). Nice pickup! The extra penciling really was what sold me on this page, as well as it was one of the pages both had physically worked on. According to Leialoha about half the later Fables pages were inked from digital printouts, because it sometimes took too long to physically send the penciled pages from England to Leialoha (and he had many of those for sale as well). Which means there must be a bunch of pencil pages around, but Buckingham left them in England when he came to SDCC. It's also amusing that Leialoha prices them by the amount of time it took him to work on the page (you can barely see up in the top right corner a notation 3 hours 30 minutes), making this one of the mid-range pages. |

The piece looks great, Aric. It was a pleasure doing business with you. I hope we can do more. It came out wonderfully. I hope commissions like this will give Richard some minor encouragement to return to the series some day. |
