Artemis Requiem Uncensored

When I got this piece, I was surprised to see some virtually invisible tape attached to it. Then I noticed that the tape was holding something down. On putting this up to a backlight, I could see that, after Benes drew this, they had put extra hair over the "best parts" of the picture. This is my reconstruction of the picture as it was originally drawn.

This was a painstaking process. I don't own a light table but I improvised with a pane of glass, two buckets and a flourescent light with a digital camera pointing down on it.
Not only did the image underneath come out blurry, but also brown. Plus, there were all those lines on the top layer obscuring and confusing things all of which had to be erased. There was a lot of interpretation and judgement calls involved. I'm pleased at how I was able to turn brown and darker brown with black in places images into black and white and to get the lines from the four photos to match up with the scan.

It took a lot of time, but it is a very relaxing activity. I call it mixed media because it is pen and ink with photoshop. I apologize to Ed Benes for any inaccuracies.
