One of my favorite comic book characters is Mantis, who was created by writer Steve Englehart. She made her debut in Avengers #112 (June 1973). I am a huge fan of Englehart's run on Avengers, especially the "Celestial Madonna" story arc. This past Saturday, I got this tattoo of Mantis done on my right leg. I've been hoping to have this one done for several years now. I finally had the funds available and went for it.
I had originally thought to have it done by Becca Roach, who did my Beautiful Dreamer and Watchmen tattoos. Becca recently moved to Hawaii, and she recommended to me Daniel Cotte, who she worked with at SenaSpace Art + Tattoo at 229 Centre Street in the East Village. Daniel did an absolutely amazing job on this. More of his work can be viewed on his website...

This image of Mantis is from Dave Cockrum's beautiful, stunning artwork for Giant-Size Avengers #2 (Nov 1974). I emailed a photo of the tattoo to Englehart, who was very surprised and flattered, and who described it as "gorgeous."
