Cosmic King by Gene Gonzales & Simon Gough

Laevar Bolto began his career as a scientist with the best of intentions, solving the housing problem on his planet by transforming parts of the planet itself into homes. Unfortunately he was practicing alchemy on a world where transmutation was believed to be inherently evil, and after he accidentally gave himself the power to transmute any inanimate object, he was exiled from his planet. Angry and despondent, Laevar ended being recruited into the Legion of Super-Villains and renamed himself Cosmic King. Unlike Lightning Lord and Saturn Queen, Cosmic King's powers do not match up with his name counterpart in the Legion of Super-Heroes, Cosmic Boy. Instead, his powers are closest to Element Lad's. Anyway, Cosmic King has become a completely evil being now, and seemingly killed one of the Legion Academy students, Variable Lad, in one of his recent clashes with the Legion. I asked Gene Gonzales to draw Laevar in one of his latest rounds of "Conventionless Convention Sketches" and this is the result! Gene's Cosmic King has a look on his face like he just does not care if you live or die, and that seems right for the character. I also really dig the way Gene visualized Cosmic King's powers emanating from his hands. Simon Gough added some awesome colors to this piece, and I especially love the hues of pink here, and those lovely background colors. Gene and Simon are a fantastic art team, and once again I must thank them for their incredible commission work!
