I have a soft spot for Alpha Flight.
Looking at this piece, it is 1984 all over again and I am 13 years old in my first comic shop.
I have just entered the world of comic collecting.
Being Canadian, there is nothing you don't like about Byrne's Alpha Flight! Being 13, there is nothing you don't like about Byrne's Alpha Flight! Alpha Flight #4 and DD #200 were my first 2 comics. Although my affection for mutants and super hero teams would be short lived, I remember this art and these images well having read and re-read these comics many times.
I was also very much into the role playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. I remember the Marvel RPG coming out at the time but never got into it. This is the published cover for The Cats Paw, a module, for the Marvel RPG.
1984, RPG, Alpha Flight, Byrne and my first comics all come together in this piece.
This is nostalgia on STEROIDS for me. Normally I don't do nostalgia but I am weak and this piece spoke to me. If I needed a further sign that this piece was meant to be with me, it was already dedicated to Jeff. On the back it says Byrne, Baby, Byrne in addition to having the Marvel Comic Groups copyright stamp and date.
