Description
Ringin' in 2016 right with my first Art Adams piece! I've been looking for a bit but haven't had the easiest time finding that right combination of character(s), price, and just being a piece I personally really like. This one hit that combo, so when it popped up on Comiclink's recent event auction, I jumped at it. Other than pieces I've commissioned directly from artists, I don't usually pick up unpublished art, but it was easy to make an exception here.

I've always Iiked Morbius as a character, that he was a vampire, but science born like many of Spider-Man's other villains. And he's pretty conflicted, again, like many Spidey villains. I dig his design, and when I was a kid I thought it was neat that his costume colors were red and blue, just like Spidey. I like the character now even more knowing that those colors, and the fact that he's a "living" vampire, had to do with Comics Code Authority regs at the time!

AA's rendition is just awesome. I don't know if he ever drew the character before or since which is why I feel lucky owning this. No one blends that cartoony look with crazy detailing like AA, and that's on full display here. Tons of detail packed into this 9 x 12 image!

I'm still on the lookout for that right published piece, but I'm pretty happy to add to my collection this unique pin up from one of the best in the biz. Thanks for looking!

What a great way to ring in the new year! Art Adams has such an attention to detail with exquisite line-work, and this pin-up is totally cover-quality. I'm also a big fan of Moribus & his first appearance ASM issue. Congrats!

Great, I misspelled "Morbius" in my previous comment. Guess I need to exercise the same level of detail with my spelling as Art Adams does with his inking, haha! :)

Great pickup! I had looked at this piece several times when the owner had it for sale both on here and eBay, but it was always at the wrong time to make a purchase. Glad it found a fitting home.

Perfect word, Bill, and I totally agree regarding AA!  This is my first piece by him but I'm pretty sure it won't be my last.  Got it framed and on the wall so I can look at the spendidness frequently.  Thanks for the comment!

Good heavens!  How in the WORLD did I miss this exquisite piece before now?  Honestly, this is a PERFECT piece; the figure-work and "personality" of the subject is immaculate, and the insane cross-hatching (with the diagonal "lightning"-like streak through the piece) simply stuns the viewer.  Wow.  Mad props, K.  Killer piece; well worth a frame!  (and I gotta ask: is the frame and matting some combination of red, blue, and black...? ;) )

Thanks, Jason, much appreciated!  And of course I agree with all of your comments, no bias ;)  As far as the frame job goes, there's no color with this one as the piece itself has no color - that's kind of how of I do it.  I do black frames/black mattes but the frame style and bordering mattes depend on the piece.  If the piece has color, I'll do some color!  Check out my Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends jam, Stelfreeze Black Panther, and Neal Adams Wonder Woman for some examples.  I'll get a pic of the Morbius frame job added here soon!  Thanks, again, man!

Another commission that aims to render the character and not only to impress with special effects.  Timeless!

Thanks, Carlo!  So far, my only Adams piece, and I've thought about getting another but considering all the different OA priorities and that I've already got THIS, I've passed :)  As you note, some outstanding pure rendering here.  A prime Adams example IMO, no bias of course ;)

Damn, the amount of time Arthur used to spend on backgrounds on these pieces. Lovely.
