Description

My apologies.
"MIGHTY SPIDEY FRIDAY" is "MIGHTY SPIDEY SATURDAY" this week. Had some distractions yesterday that threw off my schedule.

So, last week, I posted two pieces from the Ultimate Universe's "Death of Spider-Man" story. Two splashes that showed Spidey being shot as he saves Captain America from a bullet, and the aftermath of the shooting, where Peter is barely able to stand up.

Instead of going to a hospital, he has to immediately battle Electro, Kraven, Mysterio, Vulture and Sandman, which weakens him further.

In this historic issue #160, Spidey engages in a final battle with the Green Goblin, an epic battle that involves MJ actually ramming the Goblin with a truck!
Cuz Ultimate MJ is bad-ass.

Spidey defeats the Goblin by throwing the aforementioned truck on him, which results in a huge explosion that is the final straw for poor Peter.

On this highly emotional page, Peter Parker has said his final words (please see my post of page 25 from this issue), and the life finally leaves his poor battered body. As Aunt May cries out in pain, Peter dies in Mary Jane's arms. This poignant scene makes me think of the '90s Death of Superman scene where Superman dies in Lois Lane's arms.

So, AND they KEPT Peter Parker dead. No Ghost Peter running around in someone else's head. Really dead. There was a brand new Spider-Man (Miles Morales) introduced into the Ultimate Universe, and he is now the Spider-Man of our main universe (whatever that is after all the Secret Wars craziness -- I'm still a bit confused by that).

Now, someone CLAIMING to be Peter Parker returned all too briefly in the "Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man" series. He appeared, wanted his web-shooters, fought Miles, teamed up with Miles against the Green Goblin (also returned from the dead), then drove off in a car with MJ to parts unknown. He offered a bit of explanation as to the circumstances of his return, but it was shrouded in mystery. It made for a great story, but I wasn't convinced either way. Maybe it's better that we never really know. Makes for some great speculation and conversation. And also it was a great way to more officially pass the role of Spider-Man from Peter to Miles.

(Special thanks once again to my amigo for these two issue #160 death pages. Never thought I'd own this incredible piece of Spider-Man history.)

I can’t believe I missed this amazing piece!  USM is a major portion of Spider-man lore that often seems under appreciated.  This is such a historic and very dramatic page!  Congrats Paul!
