A personal favorite early 3D Shadowbox I made circa 1975 was of ACTION COMICS #437 cover by Nick Cardy from 1974. It obviously just screamed for me to do a 3D of. Nick often did inventive covers involving heroes coming out of books, but this was my favorite.

Since this cover was of a cover, I thought it best to omit the top 100 PAGES banner that was not integral to the 3D picture. Also left the book cover with logo flat since the characters were already bursting out of it. In framing it, I decided to put the book at a slight angle which I thought looked best at the time. I also used a store bought frame an originally made the 3D only as deep as the frame would allow. Hence it was not as deep and detailed as I now would do.

Over the years, the glass in the frame came loose and damaged the 3D, primarily with Superman's arms since they were the furthest out. There was only minor color fading.

The 3D was originally made using actual covers, no big deal at the time.
It has been in my personal collection ever since, but over the years the frame was damaged and the colors faded. In 2014 I restored the color fading by using color laser scan prints on the top level and enhancing the 3D work. It was then put into a new frame.
In 2015 it was sold to a client in Kuwait who also ordered a custom 3D of Justice League #50.
