Description

Original title splash artwork for Spectre Annual #1 (DC, 1995) by Pat Oliffe (pencils) and Phyllis Novin (inks). Spooky and atmospheric opening scene for the story, "Lost in Memory" by seasoned Spectre scribe John Ostrander. This was an intriguing retelling of the original origin of the Golden-Age Spectre as hard boiled Police Detective Jim Corrigan was lured to a waterfront warehouse by mobster "Gat" Benson and his crew, who had kidnapped Corrigan's fiancee, Clarice Winston, in order to trap him. Gat's men encase Corrigan in a barrel of cement and toss him into the river. Now murdered, his restless spirit will not accept his tragic fate and thus, The Almighty empowers Corrigan with God-like abilities and sends him back to earth to punish and eradicate evil, until all traces of it have been completely wiped clean from the world - a monumental task, to say the least.

A well written and nicely illustrated tale worthy of the Golden-Age Spectre - the most powerful and dreaded superhero of them all!
