DescriptionIn 1955, Shirley Jones had just landed her first film role as Laurey in the Academy Award-nominated film adaptation of Oklahoma! when Cosmopolitan commissioned Jon Whitcomb to paint her for their cover. Shirley Jones was given the original painting, which she signed at some point before donating it for a charity auction in 1996. The painting is framed with the cover from the corresponding issue of Cosmo. With all due respect to Mrs. Partridge, I would have preferred the painting to be in a pristine state, but I honestly am just happy to finally own an original Whitcomb! The painting is actually cropped a bit because it and the magazine cover are framed in such a way (for now) that the cover overlaps with the bottom right of the painting.Social/Sharing |
