ROM #43 page 14

This moody Sal Buscema panel page features a humanized Rom, who we normally see only in his space knight uniform. Long before this story takes place, Rom had sacrificed his humanity to become a cyborg in order to defend his alien race from another alien race. Here he's given a chance at restored humanity but finds himself among the survivors of a nuclear winter.

Rom was introduced in the late Bronze Age as a tie-in with a Parker Brothers toy product. The comic book actually did better than the toy, outlasting it by several years and running for 75 issues. Sal Buscema had a long, successful career at Marvel, starting when he inked his brother John's pencils on the famous issue Silver Surfer #4. From there, he became penciler on Avengers, and for the next three decades was a consistent presence at Marvel including a 10-year run on Incredible Hulk and an eight-year run on Spectacular Spider-Man.
