Description

This is a great Patterson comic that showed up on eBay along with a 1933 "Carolyn's Cadet" cartoon that I missed. In 1929, Patterson began doing various full-page comic serials for the cover of the Sunday newspaper magazine that accompanied newspapers such as the San Francisco Chronicle and the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Since the comics were printed in full color, I was surprised to see that the original artwork was actually done as a line drawing. I don't know whether the artist, himself, was responsible for adding the color, but I believe the process was that a silverprint was made from this original drawing and then the color and type was applied to the silverprint. This is actually pretty neat because it allows you to really appreciate the elegant and intricate linework that he does!
