Description

Welsh illustrator Terry Oakes is known for his hundreds of book covers in the fantasy, science fiction and horror genre in the 1970s through 1990s - but along the way he also created many personal works, some of them "portfolio"works, created "on spec" in hopes of impressing art directors, and some of them for the pure enjoyment of painting. This painting titled "Reference Point" was created for both purposes, and demonstrates his skill in depicting real-life events, such as horse-racing. It's a finely rendered scene in gouache on illustration board, 14" x 20.5" and signed, dating from the mid to late 1990s.
