DescriptionI'd enjoyed putting together the "last issue spectacular" covers that Mitch did for me so much that I couldn't help but think about building out that 80's Crusaders universe.Intelligent, telepathic, flying white apes living on the moon. And on the dark side of the moon no less! How is that not awesome?!? Appearing only once, in Adventures of the Jaguar #11, the moment I came across this story I knew these guys had to come back. Far too easy to see them along the lines of Gorilla City meets the Inhumans. Trying to figure out who to do the covers for this two-parter was a lot more work. John Buscema Avengers #99 inspired this first one and those are some very big shoes to fill. I don't remember exactly what got me thinking about Jeff Slemons, probably he posted some new work, but in thinking about it more and more it just made sense. _Very_ happy I went with Jeff because he went beyond knocking this outta the park - went right into orbit! While the apes here are _amazing_ I'm not sure there's anything here I don't just flat out -love-. Easily my favorite of the Crusaders covers. Chris, I think smartly, kept the lettering tight not as to distract from the art. As always, I hope Crusaders fans approve :) Original size 11x17 ------- In This Issue ... They have come back and they have come for the Jaguar! But, why doesn't he remember them? Especially when they claim to have had numerous adventures with him? Who are the White Apes of the Moon? And, more importantly, why doesn't the Jaguar remember them??? This Issue's Cover ... Mr. Justice, the Wizard, the Fox, the Shield, Pow-Girl and Steel Sterling are trying to rescue the Jaguar from the White Apes! Social/Sharing |
