Green Team #1 Cover / Splash Design(1973) - Grandenetti

An amazingly detailed full-sized concept design by Grandenetti for Joe Simon's Green Team project. The piece seems to have been intended to be flexible in use, as either a cover (the price banner at the top), a title splash (with a limit box at the bottom for insertion of an indicia), or perhaps an ad page. Unfortunately the book was never made a title in its own right, settling for a single shot in 1st Issue Special #2 in 1975. Issues 2 and 3 were prepared but never published, except in Cancelled Cavalcade. I really like the frantic 'mad, mad world' feeling of the piece, and the cameo appearences of Spiderman, Batman, Frankenstein, etc.
