The Martian Manhunter is featured on this 1972 Dick Dillin/Joe Giella page from Justice League of America #97. The page comes from the story which retold the origin of the Justice League that had originally been revealed back in 1962's Justice League of America #9.

The Martian Manhunter made his first appearance in 1955's Detective Comics #225. He was an original member of JLA starting in Brave and the Bold #28. In the 70s, he was written out of the team for several years, but appeared in the sequence featuring this page because it was a flashback. The Martian Manhunter received a massive boost in public exposure this past year as the character was regularly featured on the TV show Supergirl.

Following a long run on Blackhawk that lasted over 15 years, Dick Dillin took over as artist on Justice League of America in 1968 and stayed on the title until until his death in 1980. He missed only one issue during those 12 years. For a generation of fans, Dillin was the artistic voice of the DC multiverse, showcasing not just the JLA but all of the other teams that were brought into the annual Justice League/Justice Society crossovers, including the JSA, the revived Seven Soldiers of Victory, the Freedom Fighters and the Shazam Squadron of Justice.
