DescriptionThis is my second favorite page from this series. But originally, I was going to purchase the page after this, which reveals that inside the cabinet are 6 severed heads hooked to wires and transformers, powering some kind of psychic engine. For the hard core Hellboy fans, there is a clue to decipher whose heads are in that cabinet. Each head had a number tattooed on the forehead and Mignola admitted that each number is a year. I have never had enough free time to track down the dates, but if anyone has figured them out, I would love to know…. Okay, back to the story of buying the art! Mike pulled that page out of his stack and as he started to hand it over, he looked at it and said, “Oh, no… sorry! I can’t sell this one” and he slipped it back into the binder. So after some deep thought, I decided to get this page instead. But over the years, I have decided that I like this page better than the page after this. There is something really cool about Hellboy eternally opening the cabinet with a suprised look on his face but not having the contents revealed... The mystery is always more intriguing than the answer!Social/Sharing |

Hey Michael! Actually, the heads in the cabinet that you are referring to are the heads of different Saints. And the dates are the dates when they either died or disappeared. I met Mike Mignola at Wizard World Chicago a couple of years ago and this was one of the first things I asked him...if those were the heads of Saints. And he kinda did a double take and said, "You're the guy!". To which my response was, "huh?" And he said, "You're the only person that has figured that out!" And then he asked me how I did it. And I said, "Actually it was your storytelling." I don't have the page in front of me but on that page there is a shot (or maybe more), either right before or right after the shot with the heads, of a Saint. I was just looking at the page one day and it hit me. Anyway, I'm not sure how long ago you posted that. Hope you still wanted to know! And your collection is amazing!! I'm jealous! -Chad

Thanks Chad! Yeah, it took a while to figure out. There is a great Hellboy group on CBR that actually figured out all of the saints.
