Stevens, Dave - Rocketeer Proposed Poster Preliminary #1

This piece was done among a number of others that Dave drew as possible poster designs for Disney's THE ROCKETEER movie. They had been in Disney's flat files and somehow found their way out of there. I alerted Dave to these eBay auctions going on and he told me that they were basically stolen artwork, but he urged me to bid on as many of them as I wanted since he was unlikely to be able to stop the auctions nor to get access to the art in any other way. This way he had access to the artwork. I only got two of them and was outbid on the rest.

When I received them they were unsigned and undated. Dave signed the two that I received a few years later after borrowing them for possible inclusion in his "Sketches and Studies" books. Dave told me he would date them as "1991" because that was when he drew them. Dave didn't usually sign preliminary artwork until after it left his possession.
