Green Lantern - Hal Jordan 03 (Revised)

March 31, 2014: This is the product of a week's worth of work - the fastest I've completed a piece - and as always it involved me pushing my limits. This is the New 52 Green Lantern. Now yes I have tackled Hal Jordan before but never in color and never in full figure. Etched on 11 x 17 Strathmore board with mixed media, this shows GL in his element looking boss like usual. I'm extremely proud of what I was able to accomplish in a short amount of time.

After learning some new tricks I decided to tweak the original image and added the one thing that was always difficult to add but now seems simple: Stars. Green Lantern needed more stars and it's amazing how white paint and a toothbrush can make a universe of difference. I've also incorporated the use of pastel chalk, white pen, and colored pencils to bring in more detail and depth to the torso, the power battery, the face, and especially the ring. What was once him sticking his ring at the viewer, now - through the magic of chalk pastel and other media - it naturally shines. Further, taking a cue from Ethan Van Sciver, my favorite reference when working on a GL sketch, I threw in a construct of his badge. All in all I'm happy with the results.
