Description

This is an odd piece, but very good looking. Its provenance is from a large amount of what I assume to be concept pieces from 1960s Filmation cartoons. Wonder Woman didn't appear in "The New Adventures of Superman" or "The Batman/Superman Hour" and it's not the same model as Superfriends. Other pieces from the lot are Batman fighting the Riddler, the Joker, and the Penguin, but they're all hero shots like this one, not in-motion animation sketches. Some use overlays from 1960s DC comics, and Penguin is shown smoking, which he stopped in the late 60s, early 70s. Most likely this was a drawing the Filmation staff was putting together as a concept drawing, for either a show or an episode that never made it to air. It still looks really nice, and it's a great 1960s Wonder Woman animation image.

Nice, pick up. I think you're right about this being from Filmation. I was reading something on the net but, I forgot where, that Filmation in the past; were doing a pilot for her and also, there was a team up show with, just the other women hero's like Black Canary. Oh, what could have been if, this were true. Too bad they can't just put on youtube all the DC show pilots that never made air.

As the guy who wrote the book on FILMATION with Lou Scheimer, I can GUARANTEE you that this has NOTHING to do with Filmation. It is a piece similarly styled to Hanna Barbera Super Friends art, and part of a group I've seen that claims to be Filmation based, but is NOT. This is DEFINITELY post-1973, post-Hanna Barbera design. Most likely post-1977, but pre-1982.
My educated guess is that these were either done by animators as warm-ups, or by advertisers producing the Underoos ads or the Post Cereal ads. It's also possible that it's from one of the animators who did sketches or recreations at conventions, like Darrell McNeil.
It's an interesting piece of art, but without provenance, it's basically as valuable as an unsigned con sketch.
