DescriptionThis rare and beautiful illustration is the "figata" (great piece) of to day.It was painted in the early 50's by "FRANZ", and ..... WHO is Franz ??? Franz was a very prolofic Italian comic artist active since the late 40's untill the 2000. FRANZ was the nick name FRANCESCO GAMBA (1926 - 2012) used in the late 40's and early 50's. Born in La Spezia, Francesco Gamba began his career in 1947, drawing 'Razzo Bill' for Edizioni Alpe. In 1949, he drew 'Musetta' for Edizini Ippocampo', and he took over 'Yorga', a series previously created by Gianluigi Bonelli and Antonio Canale. Between 1950 and 1954, he was one of the regular artists of 'Pecos Bill' episodes, scripted by Guido Martina, and published by Mondadori. He additionally made illustrations for books published by Editrice Boschi (as this case) with the nick name of FRANZ. In 1956, he began a longtime collaboration with the publishing house Audace, the future Sergio Bonelli Editore. He created western series like 'Terry' and 'Yado' with Gianluigi Bonelli, and 'Rocky Starr' with Andrea Lavezzolo. In 1958 he was among the first artists of the well-known series 'Il Piccolo Ranger'. Gamba has also drawn stories with 'Zagor', 'Tex Willer' and, from 1990, the 'Cico' annuals. In 2006 he drew a story with 'Comandante Mark' on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of this character created by Esse G. Esse. In addition to his work for Bonelli, Gamba also drew for the French market. He passed away in London after a brief illness in February 2012. AMONG THE ADDITIONAL IMAGES YOU WILL FIND THE COVER OF THE BOOK WICH SHOWS THIS ILLUSTRATION INSIDE IT : Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas, a classic science fiction novel by French writer Jules Verne, first published in 1870. Years ago, when I bought this rare example of painted art of F,Gamba, I did n't know who was FRANZ... last year at a comic convention I saw a comic published in 1948 signed Franz ... and the style was the one of Francesca Gamba !!! 2 + 2 = 4.... I don't know how many fans of il Piccolo Ranger know this, but seeing HERE they will learn .....
