Description

Joel Carroll and I continue our exploration of the Legion of Super-Heroes' rogues gallery with my favorite team of villains: The Fatal Five! The Fatal Five are the greatest villain team of all time, in my opinion. They made a big splash with their first appearance and every time they show up, you just know it could go badly for the Legion. The members are all interesting, powerful, and well-designed. Validus is my favorite, and he is both the most powerful and most tragic member. Tharok looks the coolest, and is the leader of the team, but only because he controls Validus. The Emerald Empress has been the leader as well, though her version of the team wasn't quite as successful. Mano and Caress are both a bit scary in their purely destructive powers. The Persuader and that crazy atomic axe of his are a legitimate threat to everyone, since it can cut through ANYTHING. Flare has a lot of potential, but needs work. And poor Mordecai sees himself as a misunderstood poet, but really he's just another killer.

From left to right, here we have Mano, Flare, Validus, the Persuader, Mordecai, the Emerald Empress, Caress and Tharok. Yes, that's eight, not five. But I wanted to include more members! And besides, these eight have never all appeared together on an actual published comic page, so I definitely wanted to see Joel draw them all as a squad. And oh my gosh look at Tharok! Joel is SO good at drawing robots/cyborgs/etc. And the Persuader just looks awesome! Also I like how Joel positioned the big guys Mordecai and Validus so that they could be included in the group shot. As always, thanks, Joel!

Shame on me I had forgotten Mordecai. I love the original Five but Flare and Caress were great additions

If I ever use a Legion character that you've forgotten, I consider it a major win! :)
