Description
I've gotten to the point in my collection that I've started a list of specific books that I would like an example of. Darwyn Cooke's relaunch of Catwoman has always been at the top of that list, and I'm happy to cross this one off.

Catwoman came along at a time when I wasn't really interested in comic books, but I wandered into my local comic shop the week number one hit the stands. I picked it up, thinking it would be a good jumping off point. The story was good, but what really drew me in was Cooke's storytelling and graphic impact. There was something refreshing about this cleaned-up look after years of Lees and Liefelds and McFarlanes with the excess that they helped to popularize in the 90s. It was something new and something old at the same time. Something classic. Something perfect.

There isn't a lot of love for panel pages, but I'm giving this one enough for the rest of you. It's a complete thought, an amazing grid with a nice kick (or taser) in the face at the end. It's everything I loved about Cooke's work from the moment I found it.

I wish there was more to come.

Really lovely page, and I prefer panel pages to covers or splashes, I read comics to read so the flow of story telling is sometimes much more important.

Great battle scene, and with sound effects and word balloons too! Cooke's Catwoman is legendary!
