After years of looking for that page, I can't believe it's finally mine !
Still considered by many as the best single Titans issue (also in Wizard's "100 Best Single Issue Comics Since You Were Born"), NTT #38 is not only an unforgettable story, the first of many arcs focusing on Donna's origins, a brilliant exercice in super hero comics (no fight nor action scenes!) but to me, more than anything, it is Dick's last adventure as Robin.

Of all the characters' changes and creations that Perez-Wolfman brought to the Titans, Grayson's evolution from Robin's boyscout to Nightwing's adult hero, while still staying true to the character, was the one I preferred and that defined this classic run for me.

With this first page, you immediately figured "Who is Donna Troy?" was more of a Robin story. Grayson's last story as Robin in fact, as he would give up his costume the following issue. This last issue works perfectly as a swan song and a transition, focusing on his abilities as a detective : Batman's best student, not his aide anymore but his heir.

I still remember the first time I opened this issue and saw that page : I had never seen such a cinematic opening sequence. It wasn't a super hero comics anymore, it was a film noir, a detective story. This was revolutionary artwork for me.
Perez and Wolfman were at the top of their game at that time and this title page showed me how crazy good they were : this kind of intro had no place in a colorful costumed teen group comics and yet it worked ! Because it was true to our hero's character. The whole issue is a brillant and very rare characterization but it's the tiniest details like the Robin logo half hidden under his coat that make it work.

More than 30 years ago, thanks to the NTT, Dick Grayson became one of my favorite characters ever. Whatever happens in the DC universe today, this page, where basically nothing happens, IS Dick Grayson to me... and a great example of Perez-Wolfman at their absolute best.

Great page from one of the more memorable NTT storylines. And one of my favorites. You mentioned the "detective" aspect of the Batman and Robin characters and it's been severely diminished.

Turning the title page into a sequence of film noir tropes is just one of the many touches with which this comic surprised its readers. Artistically, it is also a page that stands on its on quite nicely.

You are so right, the incredible inks and minimalist lighting gives it a classic "noir " feel. You can almost hear a plaintive saxophone in the background....

Yes, this issue was a one-of-a-kind monument, a perfectly encapsuled storyline by 2 authors on top of their game demonstrating (if proof was needed) that you actually need very little to tell a great story, as long as you do it with care!

I loved using Letraset's rub down lettering. This is a perfect use of the tool on a graphically stunning page. The final appearance of the "Bright as a Robin red-breast" boy.
