DescriptionSaw Spider-Man: Homecoming this weekend and definitely enjoyed it. I think Marvel Studios was able to look back on the good/bad of past Spider-Man films and come up with something fresh and more in line with what us comics folks think of when we think of a young Spidey. I also thought they’d have a hard time with bringing the Vulture to life but they did a solid job there as well. So I felt compelled to post a piece of a favorite, yet what many consider a second tier, Spidey villain. I’ve always thought, done right, Morbius could be a great live action addition – we’ll see! The vampire craze of recent years may make it tough :)A great side shot of Morbius up top but what really sold me on the page was the overall storytelling and the head shot in the last panel. Yep, these guys are DONE. Opinions differ on JRJR’s skills as an illustrator but where there’s much less debate is on his effectiveness as a storyteller. Inks by Hanna round out a nice looking page. Thanks to fellow CAFer Hannu Kesola for letting me pick this up! Social/Sharing |

I personally find his current style/line to be too "thick" but I agree that his storytelling has always been and remains excellent. That last panel is indeed fantastic.

You beat me to this baby (probably by a long time, mind you,) but happy for you, man. It is a great piece, congrats. I loved JRJR Morbius back in the 90's. With hindsight, I find that Romita's style wasn't as bulky as I remembered from reading it way back then.

Excellent page! I really like Hanna's inks -- they are perfect for setting up the dark and dangerous tableau.

Next to Ron Wagner, Romita Jr. always drew one of my favorite takes on Morbius. This page rules.

It's funny, just a few issues before this one (#77), Claudio Castellini did his rendition of Morbius. And right after it was JRJR. I remember thinking "both looks are so different but both so good!" And Wagner made his mark as well on his run on Morbius's title. So yeah, I agree, N :) Thanks for the comment! As well as everyone else over the years!

You said it well, and other commenters have, too, but that bottom right panel is the first image that comes to mind when I think Morbius, even all these years after reading these issues. This piece just brought back so many JRJR Spidey memories... Paul Stacy, the Trapster/Shocker team-up, and lots and lots of Spidey lifting rubble. I know you've had it for a while, but congrats all the same, K!

Thanks, Casey! Glad this page and that panel in particular were able to take you back to those JRJR Spidey stories!
