Description

Huge 'Thanks you' to Rob Frey, Steve and Mike for making this happen. I was 9 when this was published but I didn't stumble into this issue until 2 years later. As a 11 year old I loved this comic sooo much I did the unthinkable. I cut it up and put the best pages scotch taped to my walls and door. Even as a young lad I could see the magic of the first pages of that issue as BWS inked over his own pencils. When I posted this in my 'Wanted' gallery I never imaged I would own it, but now...I do. The 3 Avengers issues BWS graced us with (Avengers 98-100) are in my top 5 story-lines of all time and with owning this Splash and the cover to 99 I am so close to having an outstanding example from each issue. I feel truly blessed!
I am assuming at some point some owner got this colored by Steve Oliff but I can't be certain but I do love the colors.

Are you kidding me? WOW! This is just so spectacular. Such a great time period for the Avengers books. An amazing Neal Adams run followed by an equally brilliant Barry Smith run. So jealous right now. Big time congrats on this one!

So happy for you...I know the feeling you get when you hold it, gaze at it, explore every little line over and over...thinking of the artists hands as they created it...so damn cool. Seriously, congratulations, we all have pieces we yearn for, glad to see you get one of yours...I love this piece. And thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous! Colours beautiful, initially I thought a stat. I wouldn't like the responsibility of going over this with permanent markers!

I am sure it was colored 'back in the day' when the original was probably $50 to $100 and no doubt by a professional, but yeah, no way would I want that pressure even then. That all said- I am so glad it is colored. I love it even more this way. Brings me back to 6th grade! 8 ) Thanks for the comments all!!

Kirk, you & I love some of the same books from our youth. Didn't know you had this one. It wasn't but it's the earliest Marvel I recall purchasing.

I was fortunate to see this in person back in the early 90s. A very happy Glen Danzig had just purchased it at an Oakland Wonder Con and showed it to me. It's a beautiful page and Oliff (presumably) did a tremendous job on the coloring. Definitely a pry it from my cold, dead fingers kind of page... belated congrats!
