DescriptionA lovely, early example of Sidney Smith masterful Gumps comic strip. Andy is doing well with his investment in Carp Caviar, part of a story line that would go on for a number of months. In this strip, he's trying to put on a collar that's too small. I love the censored panel towards the end. The piece is signed twice, though I'm not sure why. This strip appeared on March 25, 1920, and the lettering was done by Harold Gray, who was assisting Smith at this time. This strip was featured in the Chris Ware curated exhibition, Chicago: Where Comics Came to Life, from June 2021 to January 2022. The two additional photos picture this daily strip in the exhibition, with my thanks to George Hagenauer. Social/Sharing |
