DescriptionIf you haven't read Jeremy Bastian's Cursed Pirate Girl, you are missing a treat. My collecting theme really narrows what I look for from an artist - I want pieces that I associate with the artist as opposed to general images. This means I usually buy pages from books or commissions. Neither is easy to accomplish when it comes to Jeremy's art. He doesn't produce a lot of pages and there is high demand. Likewise, he doesn't always take commissions at shows. While I knew he would be at Rose City Comic Con in Portland for 2017, I also knew that I'd miss the first day and the chance to get on his list. :( On Saturday, I strolled early (VIP access, I love you) and wandered over to say hi to Katie Cook and Jeremy. Here's the conversation - be sure to note my art direction. It was brilliant and the key to the piece. My internal thoughts are in italics. Me: What are you drawing? (I'd thought it was a spec piece and I was tempted by it.) J: It's a Death commission. (Did he say commission?) Me: Are you taking commissions? Can you take one more? (I'd missed Friday and figured he'd be booked assuming he was taking any at all. No way he'd be available.) J: I think I can work in one. What do you want? Me: A ship. (Note myy contribution/art direction. I'm glad I enunciated clearly. I could have received an outhouse.) J: A ship. No one's asked for that. It's going to be a fun one. (That's a good sign that my art direction worked.) I assume that this is the ship that CPG believes her father sails, but I didn't ask. It does fly the Jolly Roger though. I'm thrilled; thanks, Jeremy. Your work amazes me. Enjoy. Social/Sharing |

Jeremy's work is really so beautiful. Great piece that obviously goes right to his strong suit.

Cool illustration. And cool story as well. Jeremy sounds like a nice guy. He sure is an amazing artist.
