Description
"PRIMPING THE DOLL" - Michael R Newcomer 24" x 36" Acrylic on Canvas - Highly detailed Aviation Art painting depicting a P-51 D Mustang, "Big Beautiful Doll", flown by Lt Col John D Landers, Commander of the 78th FG,8th AF out of Duxford England 1944. Landers Doll is getting prepped and primped for her next mission. Manufactured by North American Aviation, the P-51 Mustang is perhaps the most important fighter developed for use in the latter part of WWII. The allies needed a long range escort fighter to accompany bombers on missions deep into Germany. With a 1,650 mile maximum range, the Mustang fulfilled that need. There were 7,956 "D" model Mustangs built and used in both the European and Pacific Theaters of operation.
