DescriptionGorgeous oil painting from the Golden Age of Illustration, published in the Saturday Evening Post in 1918 (28” x 23”). Henry Soulen was an important illustrator of the early 20th century, contributing to the Saturday Evening Post and other major publications, including the pulps. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, and then with Howard Pyle, NC Wyeth, and other top illustrators. Soulen always painted with bright colors and strong patterns, in a very distinctive style. His favorite subject matter was Asian street scenes. This painting is from his prime period, in his distinctive painting style, of his favorite subject matter. I couldn’t be happier to add it to the collection.Social/Sharing |
