DescriptionBack in 1991 I originally purchased this page from Byrne's art dealer, Jim Warden. I foolishly sold it on eBay around 1999. Over the years I wondered where this page was as I had never seen it on CAF or sold on any of the auction houses. When this page recently popped up on eBay there was no way I was going to not bring this page home. I am sure I overpaid for it, but I don't care. I wasn't going to take any chances. Byrne has only drawn the Punisher a few times, and I think this is the best published piece he has done. Most people don't associate the Punisher with Byrne (I think of Mike Zeck) but I think he nails the character on this page. One of the exciting aspects of collecting original art is that you never know what will pop up for sale or when and then you either go after it or risk missing out on it and never have a chance to get it again. In this hobby you rarely get second chances, so I am very happy to get this page and share it here. Even though it isn't personalized I guess you could consider this my "To Ron" page! I certainly get the "To Ron" reference! This is a great page. Bryne really, ahem, executed that middle panel well--that's totally Frank Castle right there. So congrats to getting this page back and on eBay of all places. I have several "original art" saved searches and it kills me that pages like this never pop up on my saved searches. Which is good for you because it meant less competition from me :)

I didn't realize that Byrne had drawn the Punisher in this timeframe and this is definitely a great piece so don't feel guilty for overpaying. The only other early Byrne Punisher pieces I remember are a 2 page story from CPL #!2 (1974), the 1978 Spider-man Calendar piece in which the Punisher is one of the 60 characters, and the Marvel Universe Deluxe #10 cover (1986).

Worth every cent you paid for it the second time ! Great page from the master, I didn't remember that he drew Frank in a comic at all. But also surely a lame "Namor" page :)

You're not paying for parts and labor and transportation cost. It's a treasured collector's item. You pay for it based on what it means to you. Plain and simple.
Punisher's face is the last panel is actually priceless.
