"Of Blood and Dust" (NBM cover) (2018)

9 x 11 in., oil on panel

Val Mayerik was the regular artist for Man-Thing in the 1970s, and co-created Howard the Duck with Steve Gerber. He's a commercial artist, now, and keen on the American West. He was the artist on an historically accurate portrayal of the Battle of Little Big Horn authored by Jim Berry, which was funded through Kickstarter. It is called "Of Dust and Blood."

I now have a trio of covers for this book.

I bought the painting that is was used for the dust jacket cover, and that is posted elsewhere. Val offered me the "three-quarters done" painting that was rejected as the cover. I thought it was cool, and a terrific companion to the one that was used.

Now I have this one, which is being used on the reformatted-to-portrait mode version of the story, and being put out by NBM.
