Description

The 1930s were incredible years in V.T. Hamlin's Alley Oop, but the more I've looked at the strip, the more I've gained an appreciation for Hamlin's work in the 1940s. When this 1948 daily showed up, from December 21, I was thrilled to be able to acquire it. I count 28 figures in this daily, all of which are drawn beautifully and clearly. So much action in so little space, and Hamlin makes it look too damn easy. The contour line work is just wonderful, as are those textural cross-hatched areas. Lovely stuff by one of the masters.

Hilariously, the last panel is virtually a parody of a Frazetta Conan paperback cover -- about two decades early! Congrats, nice one!
