CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF

(Land of Enchantment, 1983) 17" x 21" pen and inks on board

Bernie Wrightson, who teamed with famed author Stephen King on Creepshow, and also drew the illustrations for the unexpurgated The Stand, detailed this hand colored scene based on the month of JANUARY. The project later evolved into the film Silver Bullet. This superb illustration hails from a high point in a great artist's career, just following his work on Frankenstein, as can be seen by the exquisite inking.

This explosive full-color painted Bernie Wrightson art is one of just 12 color plates. The painting served as both the COVER of the first edition and also the lead, JANUARY, color illustration in all editions. It is certainly one of the most recognizable images from the volume and arguably, the very best painting of the twelve.

Absolutely incredible! I have always wanted to see one of these Cycle of the Werewolf pieces in person, and hope to get one of my own someday. This is easily the most memorable! Congrats and thanks for sharing!
